Matthew Shipp, tour diary excerpts: |
|
When playing at my best, the piano becomes one prism
of light. Musical space time becomes very tight - [a life cell] - the
part of the brain generating rhythm - [the cohesive force of musical
space time] becomes one with breath. At that point the mind rests in a
heaven of silence and one can hear the hymns of the angels. One can
become overwhelmed with the fact that while you are pushing ivories
down on the piano, that you are articulating an alphabet. The signals
descend into the mind and the player articulates a sequence of notes -
[a mystic alphabet]. |
